Grocery Madness, Part Deux!

Albertson's... I have not been to one in ummm 10ish years. Nope, I am not that old. Moving on.

There is only one Albertson's left in my area, and it's a little bit of a drive, but not too bad. And lucky me I have a friend that lives near so I have more than one reason to drive that way! TheKrazyCouponLady.com posted some amazing deals for Albertson's, and it was up to me to check them out! I prepped and prepared. And screamed out in joy when there was double coupons in this Sunday's paper. Three of them. And you can double coupons up to $1 in value. Now if I subscribed to four newspapers like suggested, I would have had a few more of those amazing little suckers. But I am not sure if there is a limit to how many you can use.

This is what I got.

I spent $27.58 and my total coupon savings was $21. Technically my reciept says that I saved $54.69 but I don't count it that was as Albertson's prices are a bit higher to account for using the "club card". So I will stick with my $21 and be proud! Plus, I got some amazing coupons for my next visit that really bring my savings total a little lower. I will share those in a minute. Here we go!

Cereal. Does your family go through it like mine does? We didn't used to go through it very quickly because my minions used to demand that I cook for them every morning. Thankfully, they have let up and discovered the goodness that is cereal and cold milk. But I don't buy junky cereal. Ever (okay, Lucky Charms when I am pregnant but that doesnt count). I am very picky about how my minions start their day and for us it will not be with a bowl of Cocoa Puffs (much to the Side o Beef's dismay). The cereal's above were all on sale for $1.79 (with club card). I had a coupon from the newspaper from a week or two ago that was $1 off 2. And I printed two additional coupons, both $1 off 2. I doubled one of those coupons. The coupons that I had were for Raisin Bran and Frosted Mini Wheats. Which is just fine by me. That is as sugary as it gets for us. I bought 4 Raisin Bran at $1.79 each, 2 Frosted Mini Wheats at $1.79 each, and one Rice Crispies for $1.79. Total $12.53, not a bad price for cereal. Subtract the Coupons ($4) and I paid roughly $1.21 per box of cereal! Now why did I get all Kellogg's cereal (besides the coupons)? Let me tell you!

An amazing Catalina! Buy 3 or 4 participating Cereals and get 1 free gallon of milk. Buy 5 or 6 and get 2 free gallons of milk. Buy 7 boxes of cereal and get 3 free gallons of milk! Milk for free? Sign me up! So I basically got 7 boxes of cereal and 4 gallons of milk for $8.53! That is like $.85 each! Seriously.

The Side o Beef takes coffee to work. I buy whatever is on sale and I have a coupon for. Lucky for me he isn't picky. On sale for $5.99 at Albertson's. $1 off coupon doubled. I got his coffee for $3.99! Super!

I love these noodles, but don't like to pay the premium price for them. So, instead, I got them for free! Really! They are on sale for $1 each at Albertson's, and before I left in the morning I printed off a coupon for $1 off 2. I doubled it and got them free!

I don't often buy pre-shredded cheese, but occasionally it is nice to have on hand. Especially at these prices! They were on sale for $2.38 each, both of them had a $.50 coupon on them, and I had a coupon for $1 off 2. I got them for $2.76 or $1.38 each.

Pampers. I had an amazing coupon for the diapers because I wrote them a nasty letter complaining about The Tank's soggy wet bottom every single morning when they took out the dry weave liner. But they added something back in, so I figured I would give this "New" Dry Max thing a try. They were on sale for $18.99 and the coupon that I was sent was for $10 off. What better time to try them? Diapers $8.99. And because of that purchase, I got this...

It is a coupon for $5 off on any purchase. Albertson's is running a promo when you buy participating items (they have a list in store) and spend $20 in a single transactions (before coupons!) you get this lovely Catalina. $5 off any purchase? Yes please! I will be going to Albertson's again for sure!

I also, got a 5 pound bag of Russet potatoes for $1, 2 pounds of carrots for $1.49, and two sweet onions for $1.82 (1.29/lb).

Bringing my grand total to $27.58. Not too shabby. With all my coupons that is about a 43% savings! I am serious about this couponing thing. I feel so proud to be saving my family money on what we use most, FOOD!

All this time I thought that by meal planning and sticking to my list that I was doing the best for my family. That I was saving money. But I have learned that if I only buy when things are on sale and stock up my pantry at the same time, then I am going to be getting the best deals.

If I hadn't stocked up on ground beef the last time it was on sale I would have bought that today as well. $1.98 lb for 85/15 at Albertson's.

Happy Grocery Shopping and Peace out Homies!
